How this all started…
One day I was out with a friend of mine and I started talking about different personalized license plates that would be fun to have based on a couple of my interests. The interests for which I was coming up with clever vanity plates revolved around two topics - Billy Joel and the old TV show Three’s Company.
As my friend and I walked along, I came up with some fun vanity plate ideas. I certainly was amusing myself!
Then, I thought, “hey, this would make a fun game!” But sometimes I get crazy ideas, so I decided to run the idea by each of my three kids. None of them are known for sugar-coating their reactions to any of my ideas so I knew I could trust them. I told each of them at separate times, and they all had identical reactions, which was in essence a raising of the eyebrow, with a “now there’s an idea that has some merit” look in their eye. That was good enough for me!
But, if I was going to come up with the creative side of dreaming up a game, I needed someone who could take the idea and put actual structure to it. I needed a partner.
It was a no-brainer to join forces with our son, Marshall. He knows math. And, in game development, you are just not going to get very far without a math person on your team.
After a few twists and turns, we decided to get serious. So, we incorporated and named our new business Steel Toe Games after Marshall’s affinity for that particular style of footwear.
We have since made a couple of big changes. Number one - we have put the game that started it all on the proverbial shelf for the time being. We got stuck in the weeds. But, have no fear, our first game, called Last Call, will be out soon! And, you’re going to love it!
The second big change is we brought the rest of the family into the business. So, now there are five members of Steel Toe Games lending their various skills to the process and business.
We hope you will poke around our website, get to know each of us, and the great games we are developing!
